How to Make Large Curtains
- 1). Measure from your curtain rod to the bottom of your window sill and add six inches. The top edge of the curtain will hang below the rod, and the bottom will hang below the sill. The extra inches will allow for hems at the top and bottom of the curtain panels.
- 2). Measure the width of your window. The width of the curtains is twice the width of the window to give them fullness and allow for side hems. For a double panel curtain, the cut width of one panel is the window width.
- 3). Cut two panels from flat bed sheets using the width and length measurements.
- 4). Place one panel on your ironing surface. Fold over the side edges to the wrong side 1/4 inch and press. Fold over another 1/4 inch, press and pin. Top stitch the hems. Fold, press and sew the top and bottom of the panel in the same way, using 1/2-inch folds for 1/2-inch hems. Repeat on the other panel.
- 5). Attach the curtain ring clips to the top hem of each panel. Space the rings four inches apart, adjusting the two end rings to accommodate measurement discrepancies.
