Packing Foods for the Whole Family for Your Camping Trip.
Stocking up on the right food and drink to take on your camping trip can be tricky. Many people make the mistake of taking too much or not enough. You don't want to take too much and wind up carrying unnecessarily heavy bags, but at the same time, you don't want to find yourself miles away from the nearest shop without your essentials.
Choosing the right types of food and drink is essential. Perishable foods go off very quickly without a fridge, and you could find yourself with an unpleasant amount of spoiled food if you are not careful. Only ever take enough meat and cheese to get you through your first day. That does not mean the first 24 hours, but the first day, before you head to bed. There is a limit to how long a cooling box can stay cool. As soon as your cooling box heats up, so does your food, increasing your risk of food poisoning.
Camping barbecues are great fun, but just be sure to cook your food whilst the cooling box is still cold and throw out any meat which has been out of the box for a prolonged period of time and is no longer cold.
After your first day of enjoying meat and cheese is over, you will resort to dried foods unless you are camping somewhere with easy access to a shop, whereby you can buy meat and cheese to be used on the day.
There are many dried and tinned foods which are low cost and make for a welcoming, warm meal. The easiest dried food to prepare are those which only require hot water. Packet soups, noodles and cous cous can all be prepared with a basic stove and kettle.
If you have a pan and a stove to hand, there are plenty of tinned foods in the supermarket which make a fast and easy meal when cooked on the stove. Beans and spaghetti shapes are just a few of the many tinned foods available. If you won't be taking a can opener with you, be sure to look out for tins with a ring pull.
If you struggle to get through the morning without a nice, milky cup of tea or coffee, you could purchase small cartons of UHT milk. UHT milk does not need to be kept in the fridge until after it is opened.
Bring plenty of bottles of water, ensuring that you leave a bottle for each person in every tent, including the kids play tents.
