How to Host a Hip Hop Party
Instructions
1Make and send invitations. Cut out circles from card stock to resemble compact discs. Put child's name for featured artist. On the other side-instead of song titles beside the numbers list the time, place and party details. Tell them to dress hip and bring their favorite music to hop.
2
Reserve the place. If you are not having it at your home, call 4 to 6 weeks in advance and make reservations. Church halls are usually inexpensive to rent. Check community centers, too.
3
Hire an entertainer such as a professional DJ or a rapper if you want to go all out. Get all the details in writing.
4
Recruit your friends to help set up. If you decide not to hire a professional have your friends help set up a good sound system. Get CDs, records, microphones and a turntable. Put a table off to the side of the dance floor with all of the necessary equipment and have the kids take turns working the wax.
5
Bust a move. Ask someone with hip hop talent to be the dance instructor or hire one. Give the kids a lesson and teach them the latest dance moves or how to break dance.
6
Rap. Hand out microphones to two kids with sheet lyrics. Play a jam in the background and the kids can rap together. This is called a rap off. Then have a dance competition and give away prizes like a hip hop DVD of dance lessons or a gift certificate to a music store.
7
Serve food. Pizza, chips and appetizers are party favorites. Make a sheet cake and decorate it like a boom box. For party favors hand out wrist bands, neon necklaces, funky shoelaces, bandannas and burned hip hop CD's.
