How to Change the Brakes in a '97 Jeep
- 1). Open the hood and remove the master cylinder cap. Siphon out half of the brake fluid. Replace the cap. Raise the front of the Jeep with the floor jack and support it on jack stands. Remove the wheels using the lug wrench.
- 2). Insert the common screwdriver between the inside pad and the rotor. Pry the caliper piston back into its bore. Remove the two slider bolts securing the caliper to the mounting brackets. Lift the caliper off the mounting bracket.
- 3). Pry the outside pad off the caliper using the screwdriver. Pry the inside pad out of the hole in the center of the caliper piston using the screwdriver.
- 4). Install the new inside pad by pushing the spring steel in the rear of the pad into the hole in the caliper. Make sure the pad is flush with the caliper. Install the outside pad by pushing the pad up from the bottom of the caliper with the lip of the caliper between the pad and the spring clip.
- 5). Install the caliper onto the mounting bracket. Insert the two slider bolts and tighten securely. Install the wheels and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Lower the vehicle. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and fill as necessary.
