    Using Paint

    • 1). Open Paint, click the "Paint" button and select "Open." Browse to a photo to use for the poster, such as someone tripping and falling down. Double-click the file name so the image opens in the Paint workspace. Click the "Paint" button again and select "Properties." Change the page size to poster size, such as 24 inches wide by 18 inches high. Click the "OK" button. Drag the photo into the middle of the poster.

    • 2). Select a dark colored square from the "Colors" section of the toolbar/ribbon. Click the "Fill with color" tool, which looks like a tilting paint bucket. Click the white space of the workspace to fill it with color behind the photo.

    • 3). Choose a new, light paint color such as yellow. Click the text tool, which looks like an "A" icon. Click below the photo and select a font and large text size.

    • 4). Press the "Caps Lock" button on the keyboard. Type the title of the poster, such as "TOO BAD." Release the "Caps Lock" button and type the slogan under the title, such as "Thanks for playing."

    • 5). Click the "Paint" button, select "Save As," type a name for the poster and save it to the computer.

    Using Publisher

    • 1). Open Publisher and click the "More Blank Page Sizes" button. Select the "Posters" file folder icon and double-click one of the options, such as "Large 36 x 24."

    • 2). Click the "Insert" tab on the toolbar. Click the "Clip Art" button below the tab. Pull down the "Results should be" menu and uncheck everything but "Photographs." Type a word or phrase into the "Search for" box, such as "lollipop" or "candy" and click "Go." Scroll through the results and double-click a photo to add it to the poster. Drag it into place in the middle of the poster.

    • 3). Select the "Draw Text Box" button on the toolbar. Draw a text box under the photo and type the title, such as "SUCKER!" Draw another text box below the title and add a line, such as "There's one born every minute."

    • 4). Highlight the text in the text box. Click the "Home" tab at the top of the screen. Select a new font, text color and text size from the options in the "Font" section of the ribbon/toolbar. Click the "Page Design" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Background" button on the ribbon/toolbar. Choose a dark, solid background for the poster.

    • 5). Click the "File" tab at the top of the screen. Select "Save As" and save the poster to the computer.

    Using Photoshop

    • 1). Open Photoshop, click the "File" menu and select "New." Type "DemotivationalPoster" into the "Name" box. Type the poster's dimensions into the "Width" and "Height" boxes, such as "24" and "18" respectively. Select "inches" for each drop-down menu and click the "OK" button.

    • 2). Click the "File" menu again and select "Open." Browse to a photo to use for the poster and double-click it to open the picture. Press and hold the "Ctrl" key on the keyboard. Drag and drop the photo onto the poster.

    • 3). Select the "Type" tool, which looks like a "T" on the "Tools" pane. Choose a light yellow or orange font color, text size and font from the toolbar at the top of the screen. Click below the photo and type the poster's main message, such as "GO AWAY." Type a line below the headline.

    • 4). Double-click the top-left square of the "Color Picker," the two overlapping colored boxes on the bottom of the "Tools" palette. Choose a dark blue, purple or black color and click "OK." Click the "Paint Bucket" tool, which looks like a tipping paint can. Click anywhere in the white space of the poster, filling it with the background color.

    • 5). Click the "File" menu, select "Save As" and save the poster.
