  • 1). Consider the 356 series for the truly classic Porsche. These came in coupe and convertible models. The most valuable will be the Speedster version, built from 1955 to 1959. The most drivable will be any of the 356C series, built from 1963 to 1965.

  • 2). Look for a good early 911, particularly the cars built from 1971 to 1974. Perhaps the finest example is the 911S. Avoid cars from the first two years of production (1966 and 1967). Also avoid cars built from 1975 to 1977, which have reliability problems associated with emissions.

  • 3). Consider a 914 for cheap thrills. The mid-engine design offers great handling. The 914-6 is an amazing car that was built in limited quantities.
