Catch Big Fish With the Banjo Minnow
- 1). Identify areas in the water where large fish may be holding or feeding on smaller fish. Often larger fish will use cover such as stumps, aquatic grass and weeds, pilings, rocks and other structures as a place to hide and ambush small fish.
- 2). Cast the Banjo Minnow along the edge of the structure and allow the rig with the minnow to settle in the water for several seconds. Stay alert, as this is prime time for a fish to strike the Banjo rig. Large fish such as bass are often curious and drawn to a splash. Engage the spool of the reel quickly after the rig enters the water by turning the handle.
- 3). Raise the rod tip after several seconds and pull the Banjo Minnow toward you with a few short jerking motions. Reel in the line and allow the rig to settle once again. Repeat this motion until the rig has been completely retrieved.
- 4). Cast the Banjo Minnow rig, engage the spool and begin jerking the rig just under the surface of the water, only pausing a short amount of time in between jerking movements with the rod tip. Pull the Banjo Minnow rig over the top of stumps, rocks and other structures where large fish may be holding.
- 5). Retrieve the Banjo Minnow rig completely and cast along the same area once again. There are times when a second cast can trigger a territorial aggressive strike by a fish that becomes annoyed by the intrusion.
