How to Research Film Copyrights
- 1). Google it! The Internet serves as a huge resource for almost all of your research needs. If you want to know if any public showing of a film requires a license, Google it. Go to the Google search page and type in the phrase, "do public showings of films require licenses?" You may have to play with the order of the words, but you will almost always find the answer to your question.
- 2). Visit the Copyright.gov website, which lists every copyright law that exists in the United States, including complete laws pertaining to film copyrights.
- 3). Call a local copyright attorney, who will be able to assist you in a timely manner. Not only can an attorney save you time, but copyright attorneys are well versed with the law and know specific exceptions as well.
