How to Fix a Firefox Web Virus That Keeps Loading the Same Web Page
- 1). Go to a computer that is not infected by a virus and open a web browser. Download a free trial of an antivirus program if you don't already have one on the infected computer. You can get a free antivirus program trial from a company, such as Norton or ESET. Save the installation file for the antivirus program trial to a flash drive or other convenient portable data storage device.
- 2). Insert the flash drive into your infected computer and copy the antivirus trial installation file onto the computer. Remove the flash drive, then double click on the installation file to start installing the trial program. Once the trial program finishes installing, restart the computer.
- 3). Press the "F8" key as the computer is restarting to bring up the Windows boot menu. Choose the option to start the computer in "Safe mode with networking." Safe Mode is a special start-up mode that will start Windows with the minimum amount of drivers and programs loaded, which makes it much easier to remove viruses that are infecting the system.
- 4). Log in to Windows Safe Mode and confirm that you wish to continue. Once the operating system has fully loaded, start the antivirus program that you installed. Update it to the latest virus definitions using the update feature in the program, then perform a full system scan of your computer. If a virus infection is found after the antivirus program finishes scanning your computer, remove it, then restart your computer. Allow the computer to restart normally.
- 5). Perform another antivirus scan on your computer once you have logged in to the operating system. If more infections are found, remove them, restart your computer and scan it again. Depending on the exact type of virus you are infected with, it may take a few tries before it is completely removed from your computer.
