    Removal

    • 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, using a combination wrench.

    • 2). Turn the steering wheel until it reaches its straight position.

    • 3). Insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver under the horn cap and pry the cap from the center of the steering wheel. Mark the horn wires plugging into the rear of the horn button with marking paint, then unplug them.

    • 4). Insert the pins on the snap ring pliers into the holes on the snap ring on the steering wheel center shaft. Separate the pliers to release the snap ring and pull it from the center shaft. Place the snap ring in a secure location.

    • 5). Remove the bolt securing the steering wheel to the center shaft, using a ratchet and socket.

    • 6). Match-mark the steering wheel and the steering wheel center shaft with white marking paint to ensure correct alignment on re-installation.

    • 7). Remove the steering wheel from the center shaft, using a steering wheel puller. The removal process varies depending on the style of puller that you use; refer to the puller's instructions for specific directions.

    Installation

    • 1). Set the old steering wheel next to the new steering wheel, if applicable, and place a mark on the new steering wheel in the same place you made one on the old steering wheel, using white marking paint.

    • 2). Line the mark on the steering wheel up with the mark on the center shaft and press the steering wheel onto the center shaft.

    • 3). Reinstall the steering wheel nut and tighten it to 30 foot-pounds with a torque wrench and socket. Place the snap ring on the snap ring pliers and open the pliers to stretch the snap ring. Place the snap ring on the center shaft and seat it in the groove on the center shaft.

    • 4). Plug the horn wires back into the horn button, just as they were prior to removal, and press the horn button into the steering wheel shroud.

    • 5). Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery and tighten the cable with a combination wrench.
