    • 1). Add garden arches or a trellis so the rose can climb. The height of the arch or trellis should be at least 12 feet tall.

    • 2). Check the branches every other day and help guide the branches to the arch or trellis if they haven't found it already. The branches will wrap around the arches and trellis.

    • 3). Spread organic manure or compost around the base of the rose. This will keep the soil moist and full of nutrients that the plant needs to grow and blossom. Once per growing season should be enough. Usually this is done in the spring as the growing season starts.

    • 4). Prune weak and scraggly branches. This will help keep the plant shapely and prevent stragglers shooting off in different directions from the plant. Cut back to the mail stem and angle the shears downward on the branch for the slanted cut.

    • 5). Prune the plant down to 6 inches high after the first frost. Spread organic manure around the base. Cover with leaves for the winter.

    • 6). Add water when the soil does not get any rainwater. The soil should be moist, but not soggy.
