    Relieving Fuel System Pressure

    • 1). Pull the fuel pump relay from the engine compartment fuse/relay panel. The panel will be located between the battery and the radiator.

    • 2). Turn on the engine. Allow it to run until it stalls due to lack of fuel.

    • 3). Crank the engine over for five to seven seconds to ensure all the pressure is removed from the lines.

    • 4). Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the retaining bolt with a wrench. Then pull the clamp off the terminal. Secure the ground cable so it cannot accidentally contact the battery.

    • 5). Reinstall the fuel pump relay into the engine compartment fuse/relay panel.

    Disconnecting the Throttle Body

    • 1). Drain the cooling system. Place a waste oil collection pan underneath the petcock valve on the lower right corner of the radiator. Open the valve by turning it counterclockwise with needle nose pliers.

    • 2). Label, using masking tape and a marker, all of the electrical and vacuum lines connected to the air intake duct. This is the duct that runs between the air cleaner housing and the throttle body.

    • 3). Disconnect all of the electrical and vacuum lines from the air intake duct.

    • 4). Loosen the retaining clamps on either end of the air intake duct using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 5). Pull the air intake duct away from the air cleaner housing and throttle body. Remove the duct from the vehicle.

    • 6). Separate the throttle linkage from the throttle body.

    • 7). Label and disconnect, using a marker and masking tape, the hoses and electrical connections attached to the throttle body.

    Removing the Upper Intake Manifold

    • 1). Label and disconnect, using masking tape and a marker, the three spark plug wires on the backside of the engine.

    • 2). Pull the three spark plug wires from the retainers on the plenum (upper intake manifold).

    • 3). Label, using a marker and masking tape, and disconnect all of the hoses and electrical connectors attached to the plenum.

    • 4). Remove the screws that secure the two ground straps to the plenum using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the ground straps from the plenum.

    • 5). Unscrew the bolts that connect the plenum to the lower intake manifold. Lift the plenum straight up and remove it from the vehicle.

    Changing the Fuel Injectors

    • 1). Pull the plastic wiring connector off the injector. Use a flat blade screwdriver to pry the retaining tab away from the injector. Then pull the connector off with your hand.

    • 2). Remove the two screws that secure the injector cap to the lower intake manifold. Lift the injector cap off the injector.

    • 3). Pull the injector from the fuel rail.

    • 4). Lubricate the new O-rings (there will be three O-rings for each injector) with a light grade oil.

    • 5). Slide the injector into the fuel rails.

    • 6). Place the injector cap over the injector and screw in the two screws that retain it.

    • 7). Push the electrical connector onto the fuel injector.

    Reinstalling the Plenum

    • 1). Clean any old gasket material on the mating surfaces of both the plenum and the lower intake manifold using a flat razor blade.

    • 2). Place a new gasket onto the mating surface of the lower intake manifold.

    • 3). Lower the plenum onto the lower intake manifold. Screw in the bolts that secure the plenum to the lower intake manifold.

    • 4). Attach the two ground straps to the plenum by screwing in the retaining screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 5). Reconnect the hoses and electrical connectors to the plenum using the labels you made during disassembly.

    • 6). Press the three spark plug wires into the retainers on the plenum.

    • 7). Press the three spark plug wires onto the spark plugs on the rear side of the engine. Be sure to follow the labels you made during disassembly.

    Reconnecting the Throttle Body

    • 1). Reconnect the hoses and electrical connectors to the throttle body using the labels you made during disassembly.

    • 2). Reconnect the throttle linkage to the throttle body.

    • 3). Slide the air intake duct between the air cleaner housing and the throttle body.

    • 4). Tighten the clamps that connect the air intake duct to the air cleaner housing and throttle body using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 5). Reconnect the electrical and vacuum lines to the air intake duct using the labels you made during disassembly.

    Refilling the Cooling System

    • 1). Close the petcock valve on the lower right corner of the radiator by turning it clockwise using needle nose pliers.

    • 2). Fill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of fresh antifreeze and water.

    • 3). Reconnect the ground cable to the negative battery terminal. Slide the clamp over the terminal. Then tighten the retaining bolt with a wrench.

    • 4). Run the engine and visually inspect for leaks.
