How to Avoid Splinters on Wooden Swing Sets
- 1). Sand cracked areas with heavy grit sandpaper followed by medium grit sandpaper. Smoothing out worn surfaces eliminates many splinter issues.
- 2). Fill larger cracks with wood glue. Not only does the wood glue prevent smaller pieces from splintering off when the set is being used, it helps maintain structural support, keeping the swing set safe.
- 3). Wrap high traffic areas where hands are constantly touching, rubbing or grabbing with safety pads. Safety pads reduce splinter issues and provide an extra safety measure if someone accidentally runs into a post or pole.
