How to Fix the Lock on a Window
- 1). Close the window securely, and check that the upper sash seats fully in the top of the window frame. The top of the lower sash and the bottom of the upper sash should form an even ledge. Remove the leftover pieces of the existing window lock. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the attaching screws securing the lock to both windows.
- 2). Place the solid piece of the new window lock on the lower center edge of the upper window sash where it meets the lower sash. Place the locking mechanism half of the window lock on top of the lower sash. Line the two pieces up together in the locked position. Trace the mounting holes onto the windows sashes with a pencil. Remove the window locks.
- 3). Drill pilot holes for the securing screws with a drill bit slightly smaller than the diameter of the retaining screws. Place the window lock pieces back into position, and secure with the retaining screws and Phillips-head screwdriver.
