    • 1). Make sure the vBulletin board is configured for using avatars. You can do this by expanding the vBulletin "Options" menu and selecting "User Picture Options." Click "Yes" on the "Avatars Enabled" radio button and click "Save."

    • 2). Expand the "Avatars" menu option located on the "Admin" control panel and select "Add New Avatars." Selecting "Add New Avatars" will allow you to add single or multiple avatars that have been uploaded to your Web server. Selecting "Upload Avatar" allows you to upload a single avatar from your computer's hard drive.

    • 3). Upload the avatars to your Web server if you wish to add multiple avatars at once. You can do this using a file transfer protocol (FTP) client. Upload the GIF- or JPEG-format avatars to the "avatars" subfolder located in the "images" folder of your vBulletin installation. Make sure the file permissions on the folder are "775" or "777."

    • 4). Select the "Add New Avatars" option and choose the "Add Multiple Avatars" option on the "Add Avatar Option" screen. Under "Add Multiple Avatars," select the desired avatar category from the drop-down box, type the file path where the files are located (/www/sites/htdocs/images/avatars) and select the number of avatars to show per page. Click "Add Avatars" and navigate to the next screen.

    • 5). Review the avatars shown under "Adding Multiple Avatars" and enter the minimum number of posts required by members to use them, if desired. The title of the avatar is automatically assigned unless you elect to change it as desired. Add a check mark to the boxes after each avatar you want to add and click "Add Avatars" to complete the process.

    • 6). Select the "Add New Avatars" option and choose the "Add a Single Avatar" option on the "Add Avatar Option" screen. Enter the title, the minimum posts needed to use the avatar, the avatar's file path and the avatar category. You can also enter the order in which the avatar is shown, which is automatically assigned by default. Click "Add Avatar" to complete the process.

    • 7). Select "Upload Avatar." At the following screen, click the "Browse" button located next to the file name field and navigate to the desired avatar located on your computer's hard drive. Select the avatar and click "OK." Enter a title for the avatar, the minimum number of posts needed for members to use it, the file path where the avatar is to be uploaded, the desired avatar category and the display order. When you're finished, click the "Upload" button.
