How to Cut an Angle on Ceiling Molding

    • 1). Measure one side of the ceiling, starting at one corner and measuring to the next one. Mark out the measurement on a piece of molding. Put the mark on the side of the molding that will face down.

    • 2). Position the molding on the miter saw upside down, so the side that will be up against the ceiling is down against the saw platform. Your marks should be facing up. The back of the trim, which will face the wall, should be against the vertical back guard of the saw.

    • 3). Put the mark for the first corner under the blade. Turn the blade to 45 degrees inward, toward the measured section of molding. Make the cut.

    • 4). Move the molding so the mark at the other end is under the blade. Swivel the blade to the opposite direction, again at 45 degrees, so it's still pointing in toward the measured span of the trim. Make the cut.

    • 5). Repeat the measuring and cutting process for the next span of wall, coming off the other side of the first corner where you started.

    • 6). Install the molding by holding it in place at the top of the wall -- along the ceiling -- and securing it with your trim nailer, shooting in nails every two feet. The mitered cuts at the corners should form a tight 90-degree square angle
