How to Troubleshoot a Philips TV
- 1). Unplug the television from the electrical outlet. Wait 60 seconds. Place the electrical plug from the television firmly back into the outlet. That may reset the electrical box in the TV. If that doesn't solve the problem, plug the TV into a socket on a different circuit. Check to make sure the breaker isn't "Off" in the breaker box. If you're using a surge protector/power strip as an electrical outlet, make sure it is "On."
- 2). Check the positioning of the batteries in the remote control. If the batteries are installed backward, the remote will not function. Replace old batteries with fresh ones. Locate the infrared sensor on the front of the TV and make sure nothing is blocking it from the remote's signal. When you press the remote, lights should flicker on the remote if it's connecting to the TV. If the Philips TV still doesn't respond to the remote, unplug the TV from the wall socket and wait 60 seconds for it to reset itself. Try again.
- 3). Examine the connections for any external devices, if you have trouble with picture quality or sound while using them. Make sure to attach each device to the appropriate connection, using cables that are in good working order. Set the remote to operate whatever device you want to watch videos from.
- 4). Reset the "Format" from the remote to correct stretched or distorted images on the screen. Scroll through the different options to find one best suited for the program you are viewing.
- 5). Press the "Mute" button on the remote if the TV has no sound. It may be the "mute" was accidentally activated. Turn up the volume. Remove any headphones left connected to the television.
- 6). Run the "Autoprogram" feature if you have no pictures or sound. It's possible the TV skipped channels when you did the initial programming. If you are trying to pick up broadcast channels, weather conditions and your antenna may affect how well you receive a signal.
