Acquire the appropriate divorce and separation forms. Forms are available at your local courthouse or for download on various do-it-yourself divorce websites. Every couple petitioning the Georgia Courts for legal separation must complete, at minimum, the following forms: Domestic Relations Case Filing Information Form, Petition For Divorce, Separation Agreement and a Verification Form. If there are children involved, considerable marital assets or other extenuating circumstances, additional forms are required. - 2). Complete all sections of each form. If a section does not apply to your situation, check the box that denotes the situation is not applicable. Research each term and stipulation to ensure that you fully understand the implications of your filing. Do not complete your forms with a pencil or erasable pen.
- 3). Obtain your spouse's signature on all divorce and separation forms. If your spouse does not consent, or if they live in a different state, you will need to request service of papers by a sheriff or a private service agency.
- 4). Make two copies of your divorce and separation paperwork before signing the forms. Sign each copy with a blue or black ink pen as required by the court.

File the divorce and separation documents at your local Georgia Courthouse. Contact your local courthouse to determine the total value of fees required to file your paperwork. Most courthouses accept payments by cash or check. If you are unable to pay the fees you may file a waiver of court costs.
