How do I Adjust Motor Trim on Cassette Decks?
- 1). Unplug the cassette deck's power cord from the AC outlet. Remove the audio plugs from the connections on the back panel. Rotate the cassette deck so that the back is facing you. Remove the screws from the four corners of the back with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove any screws from the bottom edge with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 2). Grip the sides of the cassette deck. Pull the cover slowly outward until a gap between the edge of the cover and the front panel emerges. Insert a flat-edged screwdriver into the gap at one side of the cassette deck. Pull the tip outward to further separate the front panel from the cover. Repeat this on the other side of the cassette deck. Pull the cover outward and off the cassette deck. Place the cover aside.
- 3). Locate the silver screw that is on the circuit board across from the capstan rod. This is to the side of the recording/playback heads. The beam of a flashlight can help locate the screw. Insert the tip of a flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver into the slot on the screw. Adjust the screw a quarter inch clockwise.
- 4). Place the cover back on the cassette deck. Push the cover forward so that it fits up against the front panel. Re-attach the screws. Re-attach the audio cables. Turn the cassette deck around so that the front is again facing forward. Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
- 5). Press the "On" button to turn the cassette deck on. Press the "On" button on the amplifier or powered speakers that the cassette deck is connected to. Press the "Eject" button to eject the cassette tray from the deck. Insert a cassette into the tray and close the tray. Press the "Play" button to note the change in speed of the cassette after the motor trim adjustment .
