Do-it-Yourself Wood Fence Cleaning
- 1). Mix a batch of bleach water in a bucket, using 2 parts water to 1 part bleach. Put on a pair of rubber gloves and apply this solution onto your wood fence with a rag. Allow the solution to sit for approximately 15 minutes. Rinse with a hose using a high-pressure nozzle.
- 2). Spray on a commercial wood cleaner with a garden sprayer. Both sprayers and wood cleaners are available at hardware stores. Follow the manufacturer's directions for the proper mixing ratio and application time. Rinse with a hose with a high-pressure nozzle.
- 3). Use a pressure washer to wash the fence. Pressure washers are available for rent at many hardware stores. Set the pressure between 1500 psi and 2000 psi, and use a 15-degree or a 25-degree tip. The rental agent will help you pick the correct tip for your need. Begin spraying at approximately 18 inches from the fence boards. Move on as the dirt and grime are stripped away. Make several passes to clean the boards to keep from gouging the wood with constantly applied pressure in one area.
