Why Are the Leaves on My Houseplants Turning Yellow?

104 10

    Identification

    • Disease and pest infestation are frequent reasons for yellowing houseplant leaves. Mold, fungus and rot, especially to the root systems, all affect houseplants and can turn their leaves yellow. A spider-mite infestation can cause leaves to become yellow and speckled. Physical damage or injury also causes leaf yellowing.

    Location

    • Plants are sensitive to temperature, and putting a plant in a cold window or above a hot radiator can be damaging to the leaves. Light is vital for photosynthesis, but too much may lead to plant distress and yellow leaves. Too little light for photosynthesis can also cause your plant's leaves to yellow.

    Considerations

    • Poor soil condition is another common cause of yellowing leaves. Soil acidity imbalances, insufficient fertilizers that may lack nitrogen, improper watering and poor pot drainage are often to blame.
