How to Convert to Word Fonts in Open Office
- 1). Transfer the Word fonts you want to use to your computer. Make a note of where you save them on your computer. Because many Word fonts are proprietary, it is not possible to download them legally. If you are transferring them from another computer with a legal copy of Microsoft Word the fonts are stored in C:\WINDOWS\Fonts.
- 2). Click on the "Start" button on the lower left of your taskbar. Click on "Control Panel."
- 3). Click on "Appearances and Themes" in the window that appears. In the little window to the left called "See Also," choose "Fonts."
- 4). Click on "File" in the top menu in the window that appears. Click on "Install New Font..." In the "Drives" drop-down menu, choose the hard disk that the font is on (likely C:). In the "Folders" drop-down menu, navigate to the folder in which you saved the fonts.
- 5). Select the fonts from the main window. Make sure the "Copy fonts to Fonts folder" check box is checked. Then hit "OK."
- 6). Go into Open Office. On the second tool bar, the font name drop-down menu (second from left) will allow you to convert text to Word fonts. If it does not work, restart Open Office and the Quickstarter, which is the icon on the right of the Windows taskbar.
