History of Apple's iPhone
Apple's iPhone is one of the leaders in the smartphone market today. Let's have a look at when did everything began and the journey of iPhone throughout the years. The research and development required for manufacturing the iPhone started back in 2005 and only in 2007, July 29th to be precise, we could see the first iPhone. Except the last version, the design genius and Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs launched the iPhone in a mega event covered by tons of journalists followed by fans including Steve Wozniak waiting outside stores to buy the iPhone.
Steve Jobs described the first iPhone as "a revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone". The original iPhone had a 412 MHz processor and a 3.5 inches screen. Steve Wozniak (Apple Co-founder) and Kevin Rose (Digg Founder) were amongst the ones who camped outside the apple stores waiting to get their hands on the device. Craze was such that Apple retail staff cheered the customers who bought an iPhone like they were heroes.
After the launch, Apple announced its plans for 3rd party application which we today know as the App store. In July 2008, Apple announced iPhone 3G and 1 million units were sold in the first weekend. It came in two variants – 8GB and 16GB with 128 MB RAM. The screen size and the processor was the same, but the hardware was refreshed with the addition of 3G support.
Just after a year in June 2009, another announcement came from the Apple's camp - iPhone 3GS. The craze hadn't faded much since the launch of original iPhone. This time in Tokyo, people started wearing iPhone hats however the sales figures for the first week were similar to that of iPhone 3G. The phone had 3 variants – 8/16/32GB storage and double RAM than the previous version. Apple also considered improving the CPU to a 600 MHz Cortex-A8 processor.
By this time, all the giants had entered the smartphones market. iPhone was the most popular, but customers started preferring other brands like Samsung, Sony or LG with the Android operating system just because it was cheaper and provided almost the same functionality. The Android OS has been the biggest competition for the iOS.
After a year more, in June 2010, iPhone 4 was announced. The employees still kept cheering the customers and the sales rose to 1.7 million phones in the first weekend. In October 2011, iPhone 4S was launched and 4 million units were sold in the first three days of the release. Just a day after the launch, Apple lost the visionary and creative genius – Steve Jobs and the world lost an amazing human being.
On September 21st, 2012, iPhone 5 marked its launch with a price tag of Rs. 44,000 for the 16GB version in India. Woz lined up in Australia so he could be the first fan to have the iPhone 5. iPhone 5 features a larger screen size, a faster chip, the latest wireless technology, an 8MP camera, a dual core 1.2GHz processor and a 543MP3 GPU. This has been the latest launch from Apple till date.
