How to Get Rid of Plantains in Lawn Organically
- 1). Dig plantain using a sharp spade or garden hoe. The weeds have a tough and extensive taproot that must be completely removed.
- 2). Pull plantains that are growing in areas where digging may harm other plants, such as ornamental beds, as often as necessary. This doesn't eliminate the weeds, but keeps them from outgrowing landscape plants and prevents propagation by seed.
- 3). Spread 6 inches of organic mulch over the site where the plantains were growing. This creates conditions which discourage remaining seeds from sprouting.
- 4). Check the site periodically for signs of newly sprouted plantains. Dig the young weeds promptly, before an extensive root system has time to develop.
