How to Connect to an SMC Router
- 1). Connect the power source to the back of the router. Plug the other end into an available electrical outlet. SMC routers do not have a power button. The unit will come on as soon as power is supplied.
- 2). Connect one end of the Ethernet cable into the slot marked "Internet" on the back of the router. Make sure the clip on the end of the cable snaps into place.
- 3). Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the cable or DSL modem. The modem should already be connected to the Internet.
- 4). Run Ethernet cable to other wired devices. Plug each one into a different port. Depending on the SMC model, there are from four to eight ports on the unit.
- 5). Set up security for your network if desired, using the software provided. The modem and router will connect to each other automatically, but the signal is not protected. Insert the disc included with the router and follow the on-screen prompts to create a firewall.
