How to Broil Steak & Bacon
- 1). Select your desired cut of 1-inch- to 1-1/2-inch-thick steak. Cut larger steaks into small round pieces about 4 inches in diameter --- about 4 to 8 oz total weight --- trimming excess fat off the edges as you work.
- 2). Prepare or pour your favorite steak marinade into a container large enough to hold the steaks. Add your steaks to the marinade, making sure they are completely covered with liquid. Cover with a lid and place the container in the refrigerator or leave out at room temperature to marinate for 4 to 6 hours. Turn the steaks over in the marinade occasionally. Omit marinade and refrigerate, covered, until later if you prefer steak seasoning instead.
- 3). Remove the steaks from the refrigerator about 20 minutes before you are ready to broil them. Drain the marinade. Allow your steaks to reach room temperature while you make further preparations.
- 4). Soak toothpicks, at least one per steak, in a bowl of water. You may need to use more than one toothpick; wetting the toothpicks helps prevent them from catching on fire while the steaks are broiling.
- 5). Turn your oven temperature selector to "Broil." Pre-heat your broiler to 550 degrees F.
- 6). Season un-marinated steaks with your choice of seasonings. Sprinkle specialty steak seasoning, salt, pepper, garlic, onion powder or other spices on both sides of the steak, rubbing them into the meat with your fingers as you work.

Grab a slice of bacon and lay the strip out, running both towards and away from you when viewed end to end. Place a steak on the end nearest you, setting the steak on top of the bacon like the steak is a wheel and the bacon is a road. Grab the bacon end and hold against the steak as you "wheel" it up the road. Stop when you reach the end of the road and the steak edge is enclosed in bacon. - 8). Grab a toothpick and skewer the steak and both bacon ends to hold in place. Set the steak aside and continue with the next steak, repeating until all steaks are wrapped in bacon.
- 9). Pat or dab your bacon-wrapped steaks with vegetable or olive oil; this will keep them from sticking to the broiler pan while cooking. Sprinkle lightly with seasoning again as desired.
- 10
Arrange your steaks on the broiler pan, spacing them evenly apart. Place the broiler pan in your oven's broiler in a position roughly 4 to 6 inches from the broiling element. Leave the broiler door slightly ajar if your oven is electric, but close it on gas ovens. - 11
Broil for approximately 3 minutes per side (for rare steak) to perhaps 7 minutes per side (well-done steak) depending on the cut, thickness and how well done you prefer. Remove the steak when complete. Let it rest 3 or 4 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend and mellow.
