Armadillo Art Crafts
- Craft a foam model of an armadillo. This craft works well for younger children who want to craft a simple model. Print out free templates from your printer from the Danielle's Place website. Cut them out and use them to trace the pieces onto tan or gray craft foam. Cut out the legs and glue them onto an empty 20-ounce plastic bottle. Glue the head and tail into place. Then, glue the shell-like body over the body to complete.
- Craft jewelry inspired from armadillos. A bracelet cuff can be constructed from an old cardboard roll that is cut into 1-1/2 inches in length. Cut out four short triangles on one side of the roll to form four legs. Cut out a small triangle for the head from scrap cardboard and cut out a long and thin triangle for the tail. Glue these pieces to the cardboard roll cuff. Decorate the armadillo bracelet by gluing small pebbles over the entire bracelet.
- Young children learning about the bands or joints on the exterior shell of the armadillo can work on a craft using corrugated cardboard. Children will cut the corrugated cardboard into an oval shape and then they will cut legs, a tail and a head from colored construction paper. After decorating the body parts, the entire armadillo is glued to a larger piece of cardboard with the ridges of the corrugated cardboard facing up.
- Re-purpose old milk cartons with a three-dimensional armadillo craft. Clean out a used one- pint milk or cream carton and cover the sides with brown grocery bag paper. Cut out the armadillo's legs from the sides of the carton. Roll up a small piece of the brown bag for a tail and attach with glue. Cut out ears and a nose and glue them to the carton. Use a black marker to add the texture of the skin and a face. This craft works well for classroom recycling projects.
