    Geography

    • Children enjoy tubing down the lazy river.

The Bahamas is part of a Caribbean archipelago in the northern Atlantic Ocean, southeast of Florida, and north of Cuba, in a tropical climate. It is composed of about 700 atolls (coral islands) and cays, of which only 30 to 40 are inhabited. Paradise Island, home to Atlantis, sits just off the shore of the city of Nassau, which is located on the northern edge of the island of New Providence. The resort is 15 miles from the closest airport.

    Accommodations

    • Ocean view from a high-rise suite at Atlantis.

The Atlantis offers four hotel options. The Coral Towers, the Beach Towers and the Royal Towers were the resort's luxurious accommodation options before the Cove Atlantis opened a 600-suite tower in 2007--a project that cost more than $4 billion. More than 3,000 suites make up the hotel area, and rooms are available to accommodate up to four adults and three children. The bridge connecting the two Royal Towers was renovated as the Bridge Suite in 2003, and is available to rent for just over $25,000 per night. Villas are also available for rent at the nearby Harborside Resort, and the recent addition of The Reef offers condominium spaces.

    Size

    • Cable Beach is a 20-minute walk from the resort.

The Atlantis casino is more than 50,000 square feet. The resort also features a 34-acre waterscape, with pools, grottos, waterfalls and lagoons, 11 of which offer a clear view of more than 200 species of tropical fish. The viewing tunnel that passes through the Predator Lagoon is more than 100 feet long. There is also a seven-acre snorkeling lagoon and a 1/4-mile lazy river ride.

    Water Park

    • One of many swimming lagoons at Atlantis.

A highlight of the Atlantis water park is the Mayan Temple Water Slides, which offers five main slides. The 60-foot vertical drop slide, Leap of Faith, sends riders through acrylic clear tunnels submerged in a shark-filled lagoon at a speed of up to 35 mph. Serpent Slide riders experience the temple's "mysterious center," then pass through the Predator Lagoon at a medium pace. Side-by-side high-speed slides allow riders to race each other. The Jungle Slide provides a trip through the caves, and the Cascades is a gentle ride, interconnected with the children's pools.

    Other Attractions

    • Aquaventure is the most recent addition to the Atlantis attractions, with a 200 million-gallon, 63-acre waterscape that includes more slides, rivers for tubing and a rock-climbing wall. The Current provides entertainment with waves and artificial tides. The Dig, a series of aquariums beneath the Royal Towers, is the world's largest open-air marine habitat. This attraction offers guests a view of the marina life of the Caribbean, including an array of sharks and jellyfish species, and gives guests a glimpse of the legendary city of Atlantis, said to have been buried in the sea.
Atlantis teamed up with the Discovery Channel to offer a variety of activities for children. Atlantis has 10 tennis courts, golf courses only five minutes away on foot, and European spa and fitness centers in all the hotels.
