How to Repair the Belt on a Kenmore Performer Vacuum
- 1). Unplug the Kenmore Performer power cord from the wall and turn the appliance upside-down so the roller brush faces up.
- 2). Take out the screws holding the metal plate to the bottom of the Performer. You can now inspect the motor driveshaft in the center of the appliance and the roller brush along the front edge.
- 3). Slide the rubber belt into the groove in the center of the roller brush and the wheel on the end of the Performer's drive shaft if the belt has slipped. If the belt is broken or stretched to the point that the roller will not turn, continue with the repair.
- 4). Grab the middle of the roller brush and pull it straight out of the brackets on the sides of the Performer to remove and discard the old belt.
- 5). Slip the new belt over the roller brush and re-insert the roller into the two brackets on the Performer sides. Press down until the roller clicks into position.
- 6). Pull the belt tightly toward the driveshaft and slip the belt around the grooved wheel on the end of the shaft. Turn the wheel clockwise to verify the belt is seated properly and the roller brush turns as the wheel rotates.
- 7). Replace the cover on the bottom of the Performer and fasten with the screws.
