    • 1). Deciding how large you need the coil to be, and choose a cylinder-shaped item, such as a pen, marker or tube of toothpaste.

    • 2). Wind the wire around the object until you have only two inches of wire at the ends. Pull the coil off of your cylindrical item, and then wrap each free end around the coil to hold the shape in place.

    • 3). Take each free end and cut the top layer of insulation so that all you see is the copper wire. Do not cut the bottom half.

    • 4). You can now combine your coil with other motor components to build a working electric motor.
