Definition of Mirrors
- A mirror is a surface that can reflect light back and does so to form an image of whatever is placed in front of it. Modern mirrors are made smooth for better reflection, but unsmooth surfaces, such as ripples in water, may also reflect light and images.
- To mirror someone means to do exactly as they do, or to imitate. A person can physically mirror someone else by making the same movements as they do, just as a reflection in a mirror would.
- In computer terms, to mirror means to have an exact duplicate of a program, of a database, or an exact website stored on a second file server. It can often be used as a verb, to mirror a website to another server.
- When downloading software, you may run into the option of downloading from a mirror site. If the first site is busy, the mirror site may allow a faster download.
- Glass mirrors are also used for telescopes, microscopes, lasers and other devices.
- Copying exact websites and using it as your own is illegal, and you should never mirror another website without permission.
