    • 1). Jack the frontof the car up and place the jack stands under the frame of the car. There are designated grooves behind the front tires for the jack stands to sit. Let the car down onto the jack stands. Make sure the car is sitting securely on the jack stands before getting under the car.

    • 2). Climb under the car and locate the oil filter. The oil filter is located on the back side of the engine directly above the oil pan.

    • 3). Put your gloves on and try to loosen the oil filter with your hands. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise. If the filter is too tight to remove with your hands, use an oil filter removal wrench designed for that filter size. Put the filter wrench on the oil filter and turn it counterclockwise to loosen it.

    • 4). Place the oil catch pan on the ground under the area of the oil filter. Finish removing the oil filter from the engine. Make sure the old oil filter gasket comes off with the oil filter.

    • 5). Wipe the oil filter housing area with a clean rag so the new filter will seat properly.

    • 6). Put a little bit of oil around the rubber seal to give the oil fitter a tighter seal on the face of the oil filter housing.

    • 7). Screw the new filter onto the threads with your hand until the rubber seal is snug against the facing of the oil filter housing. When the filter is snug against the facing, tighten the filter another half-turn.
