How to Install Tape Flashing
- 1). Cut the corners of the house wrapping---this is the plastic sheeting that the house siding is placed over. Cut at a 45 degree angle above the window to create a flap of plastic. Tape the plastic out of the way.
- 2). Measure the area along the sides of the window that you want to add tape flashing to. It will need to be long enough to overlap the the pan flashing, which is the metal flashing below the window, and to extend 2 to 3 inches above the top of the window.
- 3). Tape the flashing from top to bottom. Move gradually downward, removing the backing from the tape flashing as you go down.
- 4). Measure the top of your window to determine how long the header flashing should be. Add a few inches to each side to ensure it will overlap the sides. Cut the flashing with your utility knife.
- 5). Place the header flashing along the top of your window, making sure to start at one side and gradually move to the other. Smooth the flashing down as you go and tape down the overlap onto the side flashing.
- 6). Roll over all the flashing with the J roller to ensure there are no bubbles or gaps.
- 7). Pull the flap of plastic down over the flashing. Your window is now ready to be set into the wall of your home.
