How to Make a Large Decorative Floor Cushion

    • 1). Cut a piece of fabric ½ inch longer and ½ inch wider than you want your finished floor cushion to be. Fold the fabric in half with the right sides facing inward. Align the cut edges and pin along the folded, uncut edge with straight pins to mark it.

    • 2). Cut along your pinned line, removing pins as you go. You should now have two pieces of fabric that are identical in size and shape. Line up all four edges with the right sides still facing inward. Pin along all four edges, ¼ inch in.

    • 3). Sew up three sides of the cushion removing pins as you go. This will prevent the needle of your sewing machine from hitting a metal pin, causing it to bounce or break. When you reach the fourth edge, sew it only three-quarters of the way closed.

    • 4). Reach inside the small open pocket along the last edge of the floor cushion shell. Turn the shell entirely inside out so the right sides of the fabric are visible. Use a broom handle or long stick to poke each corner out fully.

    • 5). Fill the cushion with your choice of stuffing. If you have trouble reaching all the way to the bottom at the beginning, use the broom handle or stick to work the stuffing down into the bottom of the floor pillow. Also use it to work stuffing well into each corner.

    • 6). Continue stuffing your floor cushion until it is full and as firm as you want it to be. Close the opening by hand using a hidden whipstitch.
