    • 1). Wash your car in a shaded area with warm, soapy water using cotton towels and working from top to bottom. Rinse off the soap and wipe off the water with dry cotton towels.

    • 2). Wipe distilled white vinegar onto the bumper with a sponge and rub it in. Let it set for about a minute and then rinse. The acids in the vinegar should dissolve the water spots.

    • 3). Wash the car again with warm, soapy water and clean cotton towels, and again rinse and wipe with dry cotton towels. Wax your car, as the vinegar will dissolve the wax already on it.

    • 4). Polish painted bumpers that have water spots with a polishing compound, especially if water spots are on your car for over a week. Minerals from the water can etch the paint, and when you use vinegar to remove the mineral spots the paint may have dimples.

    • 5). Apply a polishing compound with a variable speed, random orbit, dual action polisher with a foam applicator pad. According Autopia Car Care, you should use only about three or four pea-sized drops of polish, adding more as needed. Apply wax and sealant when you're finished.
