How to Care for Strawberry Hibiscus
- 1). Grow the hibiscus in an area where it will receive full sun all day. Strawberry Swirl will not flower in the shade.
- 2). Create a 3-foot clearance around the Strawberry Swirl hibiscus. Other plants in close proximity reduce the air circulation that the Strawberry Swirl requires to avoid fungal diseases.
- 3). Keep the soil moist at all times. Water the hibiscus slowly and deeply, at the soil, not overhead.
- 4). Fertilize the Strawberry Swirl hibiscus as soon as new growth appears. Use a 10-10-10 fertilizer, at the rate specified on the package, once a month until June. After that, switch to a 2-10-10 fertilizer and use at the rate suggested on the label.
- 5). Snip off dead flowers periodically throughout the season.
- 6). Prune the Strawberry Swirl in late fall by cutting all stems back to 4 inches in length.
