How to Prune Homerun Roses
- 1). Know how the Homerun blooms. The Homerun rose blooms on new wood, so you want to do your heaviest pruning only in the winter or early spring when the rose is dormant.
- 2). Prune in the dormant season to thin out excess twigs in the center of the bush. To allow for the circulation of light and air, cut out dead or diseased wood and to shape the bush for next season.
- 3). Prune when blooming only lightly to shape and encourage new growth. Remove any dead stems and branches, and trim off the spent roses back to 5-leaf clusters--this stimulates bloom growth.
- 4). Clean up all debris and dispose of properly to avoid pests and disease wintering on the trimmings.
