    Fold and Align Your Materials

    • Start with a well fitting existing pair of pajama bottoms that your child feels comfortable in and the pillowcase of your choice. Lay your pillow case on the floor with the border at the bottom (this will be the border for the pants.) Fold your old pajama bottoms in half. Place the pajama bottoms on top of the pillowcase aligning the folded edges of the pants and the left side of the pillowcase.

Draw and Cut the First Side of Your Pattern

    • With a water soluble pen, trace around the inseam side of your pajama pants and add 1/4 to 1/2 inch seam allowance. Square off the top of your pajamas at the waistband by adding one or two inches width for the elastic you will be putting in later. Also add a few inches length above the existing waistband to make a casing for the elastic.

Draw and Cut the Second Side of Your Pattern

    • Cut along your drawn line to complete your first pattern piece. Next place your pattern piece along the right folded edge of your pillowcase. Trace this part of the pattern without the seam allowance, and then cut it out.

    Pin and Sew Pajama Pants

    • Open up your two pattern pieces and then place the right sides together. Pin the right sides together and sew the curved lines with a zigzag stitch for added durability. Then open up the pajama pants, pin the inseam together and sew the seam using a zigzag stitch. To add your waist band, fold the top of the pants down to make a casing. Then insert the elastic and sew the casing down.
