Choosing the Right Motorcycle Gear for Women

Although there may not be as many of us women drivers as men, the numbers are on the increase and with that like most women we want to look good.
So what do we need to think about when choosing the right motorcycle gear? At the top of the list should be safety considerations.
Some non-riders make comments about me wearing a leather jacket or chaps.
I answer that I would rather lose a layer of leather than a layer of skin.
I see people all the time riding a motorcycle with shorts and flip flops.
Living in south Florida can be a little warm but think about his toes and legs if he was to go down on the asphalt.
I was behind another biker when he tumbled down the interstate.
His pants were ripped just about off.
Hear it all the time "nothing is going to happen I am a safe driver.
" That tumble was caused from the motorcycle breaking.
So keep safety in mind while shopping.
Depending on what type of bike one owns it determines what style of gear.
Riding a sport bike the style generally leans to the more flexible polyester, cotton and spandex breathable fabric.
Owning a cruiser one generally looks into the leather products.
There are no rules to any of this.
This year I purchased a more flexible jacket due to my leather jacket not having a removable liner.
There are so many different styles and colors that it can be overwhelming.
I have seen passengers with high heels that I could not even stand up in much less try to shift gears.
That is OK they are just riding.
When driving there are a different set of responsibilities, but looking like a guy is not one of them.
I know I have a full faced hamlet and I always asked my husband do I look like a guy.
But let's be practical here.
I was at a toy run a few years back.
I saw a girl come driving a bike with black high heel boots and a mini shirt.
Did I mention that it was 40 degrees without the wind chill? While I am sure she thought she was all that, most of the guys around me just laugh and thought how stupid.
Color, cut and style can set us apart from a man.
I saw a beautiful white leather outfit, had tassels and a fitted waist.
I have a black bike and helmet so I don't think it would have matched, looking at the total package of style and color.
My black leather jacket which I love has fringe and it is very girly; I don't think too many biker men would wear it.
The one thing that I did not think about when I purchased it was that the liner did not come out.
Sometimes starting out it is cold but by 10 or 11 it is time to get out of a lined jacket.
So think it all out and don't forget about the gloves.
Some shops may have the girls and guys separated but don't worry about where it is hanging.
I have longer arms and something I have to buy guys to get them to fit.
Remember the most important thing is comfort and fit.
Driving a bike requires easy movement of arms and legs in steering, stopping and acceleration.
It is not hard to find the right motorcycle gear that is safe, fits, is comfortable and looks great.
Cost cutting tip: Find the size and style then shop on line.
I have saved $20 to $30 dollars doing this.
