Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab and Haryana.
It is one of the seven union territories of India.
The name Chandigarh is coined from an ancient temple name of Goddess 'Chandi'.
This city has been referred in various novels and magazines.
This city is known for its urban planning and architectural planning all over the world.
This city came into existence in 1950, when Jawaharlal Nehru after partition commissioned the land for the development of a city which would preserve the traditions of the past and would also move along with the present generation.
This city also serves as the symbol for the future of the India.
Economy of Chandigarh: Since Chandigarh is the capital of two states, it provides employment to many people by funding various projects of National and State Interest.
This city is known as "pensioner's paradise".
There are a number of large and medium industries which produces a large variety of goods ranging from sanitary to military goods.
It also has offices of major trade promotional Agencies like FICCI, PHDCCI, and CII.
It has various banks with well developed infrastructure.
Tourist Spots: Chandigarh IT Park: It is a technology park that was founded with an attempt to make Chandigarh a major force in the field of IT.
Various multinational IT Companies like TCS, Infosys, and Accenture etc.
has their training centers here, where they train students and new trainees.
Rock Garden: It is a garden made from industrial and domestic wastes.
Various sculptures and artifacts are made from recycled wastes that are thrown away.
This garden was founded by Nek Chand.
He was a government official who founded it secretly in his spare time in 1957.
Today this garden is expanded to over 40 acres of area which comprises of interlinked courtyards and sculptures.
