Playing any game including this particular card game requires one to understand the game. There is no point at all to play a game that you cannot comprehend. The need to understand the game is not only because it is called for but in order for you to enjoy yourself. You want to understand the card game as played at the casino or at home so that you are not left out of the fun.

Learning the basics of this game is not that hard. You simply need to have the right tools and the will to learn. You will need to assemble your poker chips, the card table and the deck of cards. The three are essential for any game to take place. Without one or the other, the game will not be that fun. Once you have all that you need, you then want to get familiar with the cards. You need to know the value of the poker cards before you start playing. Different cards of the deck have different values especially when paired together.

After getting familiar with the value of the cards, you need to get familiar with the value of the hands as well. The value of the hands will determine if you win that round of the game or not. The value increases from one pair, to three of a kind etc. There is also the full house, straight flush and the royal flush. The higher your hand, the easier you get to beat the rest of the players. You need to understand that a pair is made up of cards that have matching value in terms of numeric and three other cards.

For two pairs, you will have a set of two different pairs and an addition card. For the three of a kink, you will have three cards in total that have a match in their numerical value. Two cards are needed to complete the set. For straight, you will need five cards in the order of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 or from 7, 8, 9, 10 and J, for example. all these cards need to belong to different suits. As you continue to learn poker, you will need to know that a flush is made up of five cards that are not in order but of the same kind of suit. For a full house, you will need a three of a kind set and a pair.
Any four cards that have numerical values that match and an extra card make what is known as a straight flush in the game. For a straight flush, the set is normally made up of cards that are straight and from the same kind of suit. Finally, the royal flush is made up of a 10, a jack, the queen, the king and an ace from a single suit of cards. That is the basic information that you need to know in order to understand poker.
