If you are choosing between good and bad, of course you will go to choose the good one and it is an easy decision if you know which is which.
How if you are about to choose between two persons to qualify in a vacant position in your office, can you determine which of them is good and which is bad.

If only you can read people minds, you can always have the best choice.

So the tendency of being caught from smart answers and sugar coated respond, can somehow lead you to approved someone that has been hiding from authorities.
And the worse thing that can happen is getting involved to serious cases because you hire immoral person in your company.
As a lesson, you should learn from your mistake.
