How to Troubleshoot a Projector TV

    • 1). Look at the front of the television for a blinking light, probably red. Flashing red LEDs are likely the projector lamp warning light --- telling you the lamp needs replacing. A dark screen and unusual colors also indicate that the lamp needs replacing.

    • 2). Turn off power to the projector TV, wait a few minutes and allow the cooling fan to complete its job --- you'll hear it shut down. Let the lamp cool down completely, this can take a half-hour. Replace the lamp following the directions for your particular projector TV.

    • 3). Double-check that the new lamp is securely attached if the replacement lamp does not light up. Remove it and try again. Be careful not to touch the glass as oil from your fingers can prematurely age the lamp. Check that the lamp door is attached securely, too.

    • 4). Clean dust from ventilation slots in the cabinet if a high-temperature warning appears. The warning can either be a message on the display or a red LED blinking rapidly. Check that you have plenty of room around the TV and that vents aren't blocked with other components.
