How to Install a Metal Backsplash
- 1). Measure and cut metal sheets to size. If using tin or thin pressed metal, carefully trim with tin snips.
- 2). Wipe metal with denatured alcohol. Use a clean rag to clean the surface that will be adhered to the wall. This removes any chemicals used on the metal during production and will help create a stronger bond with the adhesive.
- 3). Install 1/4 inch plywood base if necessary. The metal will be glued directly to the wall. The plywood base should only be needed if the walls are in poor condition and the adhesive won't take.
- 4). Apply adhesive to metal. Use a strong adhesive that will bond metal to wood or Sheetrock, depending on the wall surface. Apply a line of adhesive across the back of the metal in a zigzag pattern for the best coverage.
- 5). Attach metal to wall and tack with nails every 6 inches. Use small nails to secure the metal until the adhesive dries.
