If your bathroom is small, getting ready in the morning can prove challenging. Without plenty of storage space, you are left puzzling over where to keep your toiletries and bath linens. However, having a small bathroom does not mean you have to allow it to remain in disarray. Creative storage solutions, attractive decor and space-saving fixtures, and furniture allow you to take advantage of the space that you have and free up as much extra room as possible. - When your bathroom lacks closets and floor space, you should take advantage of your walls for storage. Purchase a tall, narrow linen cabinet or install open shelving. Roll and stack your towels on the shelves for a spa-like effect. For a modern look, consider floating shelves or cubes. Utilize space behind your mirror by installing a medicine cabinet, or insert a niche into your shower area. If your bathroom is extremely small, consider storage units that are designed specifically to fit over the toilet. Another option is to store items outside the bathroom, such as within a cabinet or closet in the hall.
- Every bathroom should include a sink, toilet, and shower or bath, and these plumbing fixtures take up a large amount of space. Replace clunky old toilets with sleek wall-mounted or tankless versions. Rip out your large, fixed vanity and install a pedestal sink, or angle your sink in the corner to take up less space. If you can live without taking baths, a stall shower is the most space-efficient solution for a small bathroom.
- When decorating small spaces, the first impulse is often to use a neutral color palette since white makes every space feel larger. However, when decorating small bathrooms, it's perfectly acceptable to use bright or dramatic colors. Cover the walls with a bold-patterned wallpaper, or add pops of color by painting an accent wall or installing varied mosaic tiles. Other opportunities to inject color into your bathroom include towels, bathmats, and even your shower curtain.
