In Salt Lake City Utah, up Millcreek Canyon, lies a dark wood. It is rumored that the forest is haunted, although the only documented report of such a haunting is that of three young girls who encountered a demonic creature on an autumn night in 1992. The source of the haunting was investigated by authorities, but was never solved. The trail is now vacant and the wood has been left to overgrowth. This particular experience is believed to have happened at the Alexander Basin trailhead.. It lies a few miles up the canyon on the right side of the road.

The three girls were from Sandy, UT and decided to take a camping trip up the canyon. They set up their tents in a small pine grove away from the road, at the first fork in the trail. They built a fire and talked until dusk.

Once the night crept over the campsite, the girls began to hear a faint sound. It was a deep throaty growl, off in the distance. At first they thought nothing of it, but then they heard it again, and it seemed to be getting closer. The girls froze, listening closely to this strange sound.
All at once, an enormous wind whipped through the woods, blowing a pile of leaves and needles into the air. The debris hit their faces as it flung into the air. The wind knocked over their gear and whipped their hair. It was so fierce that it almost put out their campfire. Then the wind stopped just as suddenly as it had started.
The girls were terrified. They sat motionless for a moment, not knowing what to do next or what to expect. The woods were completely silent. Then, from the direction of the deepest part of the woods came a wailing so loud and so tormented, it was horrifying. The girls covered their ears with their hands and tried to block the horrible shrieking. It was a sound they had never heard before and they knew it was not of this world.
The three girls immediately jumped up and ran wildly into the forest, in the direction of the road. Around the first bend, one of the girls tripped on a log as the other two went flying by. She called out for help but her screams were muffled by the deep throaty growl that was in pursuit. The other two, not knowing what to do, escaped to the road and drove back down the canyon calling for help.
By the time the authorities arrived, it was too late. Her bloody body was torn and mangled in the bushes, barely recognizable. The incident was reported as a Mountain Lion attack although the manner that the injuries were inflicted and the strange markings on the ground implied otherwise.
It is said that on certain Autumn nights, you can still hear the cries of the monster. All of them described as deep, throaty, and demonic...
