How to Kill Bugs in Soil Before Bringing a Plant Indoors

    • 1). Spray the plants with a garden hose before bringing them indoors. If you do not have an outdoor garden hose, bring the plants directly to your kitchen sink or your bathtub and spray them down with the sprayer or shower hose.

    • 2). Fill a spray bottle with water and add two to three drops of liquid dish soap. Spray the plant and the soil with the soapy water. Soak the soil to a 1 inch depth with the soap spray. Allow the spray to sit for 15 minutes.

    • 3). Rinse the suds from the plants and soil with clear water from the garden hose. Pick-off any remaining insects that you see on the top layer of soil with your fingers. Allow the plant to dry and move it to its permanent indoor location.
