How to Paint Cups to Bake for Kids
- 1). Clean the glass cups you will be painting. Use glass cleaner followed by rubbing alcohol to ensure that any residue has been removed from the surface area of the glass cup. Inspect the glassware to ensure that no cracks or chips are in each glass, as this could cause the entire glass to crack once in the oven.
- 2). Sketch the designs you will be painting on the cups with white paper and colored pencils. Decide which patterns or designs you will using. Take your drawings with you when you go to purchase the acrylic paint required for the project. Make sure to use kid-friendly designs, such as rainbows, sports themes, cartoon characters and popular expressions.
- 3). Purchase acrylic paint and both fine- and wide-tip brushes designed to use with acrylic paint. Make sure you have all supplies before starting to paint, including plastic cups to pour paint into, a cup for water to rinse brushes and paper towels to dry off paint brushes between colors.
- 4). Place the glass cups on a clean and flat work surface. Paint the designs on each glass cup, using your sketches as a guide. Use a wet sponge or cloth to remove rogue paint and touch up areas where the paint is too thick. Finish all of the glass cups before cleaning up your painting supplies. Allow the paint to set for 48 hours.
- 5). Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil. (You may skip this step if you have a baking sheet devoted solely to non-edible craft projects.) Turn your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and allow it to preheat. Put the cups on the tray, slide the tray into the oven and bake the glass cups for 10 minutes.
- 6). Remove the tray from the oven and place on a heat-proof surface to allow the painted glass cups to cool. Wash the cups in mild dish detergent and dry before giving them to kids for use as drinking cups.
