How to Remove Exhaust Manifold
- 1). Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. To do this, turn the retaining bolt on the cable clamp counterclockwise until the clamp loosens enough for you to remove it.
- 2). Unplug the oxygen sensor wiring harness.
- 3). Remove the bolts holding the exhaust manifold shroud in place. This is essentially a heat shield covering the exhaust manifold.
- 4). Pull the EGR tube and suction tube off of the exhaust manifold.
- 5). Apply penetrating oil to the mounting bolts on the manifold.
- 6). Place the floor jack under the front of the vehicle and jack up on the front jack point of the vehicle located near the radiator. It will be an extension of the frame. Place jack stands under each of the front pinch welds and lower the vehicle onto the stands.
- 7). Apply penetrating oil to the exhaust-to-bracket bolts on the underside of the exhaust manifold. Apply oil to the self-locking nuts.
- 8). Remove the self-locking nuts and separate the exhaust manifold from the header piping.
- 9). Remove the exhaust manifold to bracket bolts.
- 10
Lower the vehicle to the ground and remove the remaining bolts and pull the exhaust manifold off.
