We Need Money

In every culture around the world, people are trying to get money so that they can live better lives.
Who wants to struggle to live day to day? Who enjoy living in sub-standard housing? Who is satisfied with one or two meals a week? On the other hand who is satisfied with a 1989 Volks-wagon Jetta when everyone else is driving 2008 BMWs, Mercedes, and Lexus.
As long as we are alive on planet earth, "we will need money.
" We need money to buy the necessities of life i.
e.
, food, clothes, and shelter (just to name a few).
Even if you are debt free and owed no one, you still have to pay taxes.
From the womb to the tomb it's going to cost money.
If you listen to a lot of different preachers, you will probably here sermons of the evils of having money and possessing a lot of things.
On the other hand, there are those at the other extreme saying; "God wants to make everybody millionaires.
" God is not opposed to us having money and things; He is opposed to money and things having us.
When this is the case, we are made the slaves of money, and thus our lives are left empty and unfulfilled.
It is true that we need money, but a greater truth is that we need Jesus.
However, many well meaning people see Jesus as a means toward money and things rather than seeing Him as the all, which includes the beginning and the end of all that we need.
He is our sufficiency.
The apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthian church wrote: "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life" (2Corinthians 3:5-6).
People all over the world are struggling in self-effort to make money, to buy food, and to provide shelter, as well as laboring to buy mansions and fancy cars.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:8B "For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
" Jesus also said: "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek.
For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Matthew 31:33).
"Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life,...
" (John 6:27).
